Reflexology News welcomes the arrival of Reflexology Level Five.

Centralia the Cardiff based independent Approved Centre have launched a real breakthrough in reflexology Training, the Level 5 Practitioner Training Course in Reflexology.
Centralia director Sue Evans says ‘I have felt for some time that the provisions within the current level three qualification were not adequate for reflexologists to be trained at a professional level. In common with a number of other Reflexology schools I believed that there was a need for a more Reflexology focussed training for Reflexologists. The current level 3 qualification is largely based on a set of generic complementary therapy units with only one unit out of seven being specific to Reflexology.
This effectively means that the qualification treats all complementary therapies as being the same in principal which of course they are not.
In order to give the best possible training to potential reflexologists this has left tutors of schools who felt similarly in the position of having to teach their students substantially greater content than is contained within the level 3 specification. Leading to their students gaining extra knowledge but involving extra effort without the recognition they deserve for that effort.
Faced with this my partner Paul Steward and I decided to write our own suite of units specifically for reflexology.
I have been running a pilot scheme in my own school (Inspira in Cardiff) and my students are very happy with the course and its content. They are also extremely pleased that they will be the first in the country to complete their training at Level 5.’
Centralia has invited a number of selected schools and training centres across the UK to become Partnership Centres with them.
Sue says ‘I am happy to say that adoption of the units has been greater than expected at this early stage, and that prospective students should be able to find a level five course in most parts of the UK.
We have chosen Professional Reflexology to verify these units as they are the only Reflexology membership body
to have a Training and Education section. They hold regular schools co-operation meetings making it straightforward to share best practice and to keep everyone concerned up to date with developments.’
The Level 5 suite of reflexology units was written by Sue Evans, in association with the Curriculum Development Manager (Health and Social Care) of Agored Cymru, who are a QCF and CQFW Awarding Organisation in Wales, and fully complies with National Occupational standards and the core curriculum for Reflexology thus allowing access to registration with CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council)
The Directors of Centralia are Sue Evans BA(Hons) and Paul Steward (Bsc). Together they also run the highly successful ~Inspira~ Academy for Reflexology and Reiki. Previously Sue was responsible for the writing and presentation of the Reflexology, Reiki and Research units of the University of Glamorgan's HND in Complementary Therapies. She then progressed and became the author and lecturer of the Reflexology module on the degree course in Complementary Therapies at Cardiff's Metropolitan University (formerly UWIC), as well as being a Research Dissertation Supervisor for the degree Paul Steward is a former professional musician and has a BSc in Music Technology from the University of Glamorgan. Paul's role with Centralia and Inspira is one of Administrator. Sue and Paul opened ~Inspira~ Reflexology Academy over 10 years ago and they both have a commitment to upholding the highest standards in Reflexology Training
